Danielle Mitchell, shown here in the Somerset tournament, had a good tournament at the plate and helped the team go 2-1 in their final three games.
The Bay State Clovers 18U girls softball team headed to Lowell last weekend with hopes of showing the best teams in the region they belonged.

After a two-week sabbatical since finishing second in Somerset, the Clovers came out flat losing their first two games on Saturday before finally coming out on top in the third.

Nicole Eisenmann took the 5-2 loss against the North Shore Storm.  Lazy defense and sleeping bats couldn't help Eisenmann, who pitched well enough to win.

Next up were the defending Maine state champs, The Flame, who had just too much fire for the Clovers.  Five errors and only four hits doesn't win a game against a team like this. Stephanie Ameen was the losing pitcher, 10-2.  Whitman's Dani Mitchell went 2- 3,  with a run scored in the loss.

East Bridgewater’s Amanda Peters took the hill against Woburn’s Tanner Pride in game three hoping to stop the bleeding. With the Clovers trailing 3-1 in the top of the seventh, they exploded for four runs and were able to hang on for a 5-4 win.

Jordan McDermott had a defensive gem of a play in the bottom of the 7th with the tying run on second.  The Woburn batter hit a sinking line drive to left field when McDermott made a shoe string catch then threw to 2nd to pick off the runner for the game ending double play.   McDermott (3-4), Eisenmann (2-4), and Laikyn Nadolny (2-4) provided the offensive spark.

The bats came to life on Sunday as the Clovers pounded Quincy 16-3.  Ameen got the win and everyone contributed.  Eisenmann (4-4, 2 doubles), Kyla Palaschak (3-4) and Wareham's Bonnie Thorne (3-4) ripped the ball.

Next up were the NE Firebirds, one of the premier organizations in the region.  The girls jumped on them for 4 runs in the first.  But teams like the Firebirds don't go away quietly.  By the end of the 2nd it was 5-4, Firebirds.

Then the wheels came off.  Three errors and shoddy defense accounted for 4 runs making it 9-4.  The Clovers never gave up and had them on the ropes a couple of times but couldn't cash in, losing 9-5.  Again the 'D' let Eisenmann down in the loss.  McDermott went 3-3 and Palaschak 2-3.

With no more layoffs the Clovers roll on to Bristol, R.I. this weekend hoping to play like the team they know they are.
