Police are investigating a robbery that took place at Marylou’s News on Tuesday, June 24.

Police believe a robbery at this Marylou’s News Coffee store is connected to robberies in Whitman.

Sergeant Steven Brown of the East Bridgewater Police said that Marylou’s, located on North Bedford Street, was held up at about 7:20 p.m.

The suspect threatened the workers with a syringe and demanded money, said Brown. The amount of cash the suspect got away with is not known.

The police have a sketch of the suspect. The suspect is a male in his 20s. He is about 5’10” and is thin and wearing a baseball hat.

This description of the suspect is similar to a man suspected in a string of Whitman hold-ups.

The latest robbery in Whitman took place on Monday, June 23 at approximately 8:58 p.m. at the Dunkin Donuts located on Bedford Street. The suspect in the Dunkin Donuts robbery is said to be about 25-years-old; wearing a gray sweatshirt with “COWBOYS” on the front, dark pants, white sneakers and a dark colored baseball hat.

The police believe it to be the same suspect.

“The comments he made to the clerks were similar,” said Brown, who was unable to elaborate.

In other police news:

A pipe bomb was found at the power lines near Pond Street on Wednesday, June 25 at about 11:50 a.m.

A Hanson resident was riding his bicycle along the power lines and came across what was some kind of explosive device, said Brown.

The resident thought he was in Halifax at the time and called the Halifax Police Department, Halifax then informed East Bridgewater of the pipe bomb.

“It’s nice to work cooperatively with other departments,” said Brown.

The State Police Bomb Squad was called in and they denoted the bomb. They also brought in a K-9 to search the surrounding area for other possible bombs.

The bomb squad was joined by the East Bridgewater Fire Department in the “diligent search,” said Brown. The Fire Department set out for the search on four wheelers. No other bombs were found. This incident is under investigation.

The bomb squad took what was left of the pipe bomb to be examined at the State Police lab.
