Musings

This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.

Travis Consolo picked up his first win of the season on Monday.
The Panthers boys tennis team improved to 7-11 on the season with a 4-1 win over Plymouth South at the high school on Monday. With the win, the Panthers moved into third place in the North Division in their final season in the Atlantic Coast League.

“It was an awesome match,” said head coach Courtney Jones. “It was really good to have another win.”

The Panthers swept the singles matches with Barry Boudreault improving to 13-3 on the season and first singles player Travis Consolo picking up his first win. Vinny McDougal got the other singles win for Whitman-Hanson and first doubles team Warren Shaw and Ryan Fitch improved their individual record to 8-7 with their match win.

“It is nice for them to have winning records,” Jones said. “They played great.”

The third place finish for the Panthers is the highest the team has finished under Jones’s tenure as coach and one of the best seasons of record for boys tennis.

“This was a great season,” she said, giving credit largely to her seniors for the work they have put in to develop over their four years. “They have all worked really hard since freshman year coming from a position of never really having picked up a tennis racquet to playing varsity high school tennis. They did a really great job and I’m proud of all of them.”

Unfortunately, the seniors will miss out on their final match of the season on Friday, as it is the same day as the senior prom. Whitman-Hanson beat Plymouth North 3-2 in the first meeting of the season between the two teams, but that was with the Panthers at full strength.

“I’m going to be missing four of my top seven,” Jones said. “I was really hoping for another league win out of that. It will be interesting.
