Welcome to May, everyone. Let the May/ June craziness begin! Dance recitals, first communions, kids field trips, graduation parties and weddings abound. Good luck everyone, summer is right around the corner.
A hearty congratulations to Peter Spagone, Jr. After days, weeks, even months of training, he placed first in the Support our Troops Road Race. He was second last year.
Get a kick out of these soccer girls, looks like some of them need a shave! Darian, Stephanie, Adrianna, Mikayla, Ashley, Page, Niav, Katelyn and Kayla are one of the many U10 Viking teams that took part in the annual Friendship tournament held in Raynham. Some of them got a painted mustache to look like their coach Carlos. They are also coached by Coach Elliott and Coach Gudjonsson.
Antiques on the Common Show coordinator Sue Hartman extends an invitation to all non- profits to come and use the show to raise money for their organization. The Lions Club has been there every year serving coffee and lunch but she says, “It seems like a shame some of these groups who need cash are not out there raising money. Whether they are selling goodies, raffles or having an antique table of their own to sell. I just thought that your readers are the more active participants in town activities and may be interested in this opportunity.” Thanks, Sue for the offer. If anyone is interested, call her at 508- 378-7388. The show is Saturday May 31 8a.m. – 4 p.m.
Natalye Weiner zipped up to Whitman recently when the Fox 25 Morning News Team came to Whitman for their weekly Zip Trip. She had a great time meeting Doug Meehan, VB, Kim Carrigan and Gene Lavanchy and sent us pictures. Looks like fun, Natalye.
c I took my boys to see South Pacific at the middle school, and it was awesome! Kids, director and all of the volunteers get extra kudos!
Happy 45th Anniversary to the Paula Coffey Dance Center this weekend. Time sure does fly when you’re dancing through life. I’m sure the recital at Whitman-Hanson High School will be a huge hit!
The COA and SALT Council have come up with an awesome idea for their usual spring fair. On Saturday May 17, the Community Spring Fling at the Commercial Club will feature tables of community groups from town. The idea is a multi-generational event to let those new comers (and not so new) know about the many volunteer opportunities in town They’ll have children’s activities as well as adult groups. Please bring a donation for the local food pantries. We have an incredibly active community, and groups are always looking for folks with a wide variety of talents. Even if you think you have nothing to offer, think again, just being a member sometimes is all that is needed. Girl Scouts, Wheels of time (antique car club), and the Arts Council with face painting, but there are so many more organizations: the local cable station, Boy Scouts; even the schools could use volunteers. Just this week I had three people on separate occasions tell me when they retired they started looking for things to do in their community. So think about it – it’s spring – time to start new! Get involved!
