Chris Harvey pulled double duty in the distance events for the Vikings and outran his Abington opponents in both the mile and two-mile runs.
The East Bridgewater boys track team moved one step closer to back-to-back South Shore League championships with a 112-24 win over the Abington Green Wave at the high school on Monday. The win was also the 19th straight dual meet victory for the boys track program.

The Vikings were led by four-event winner Myles Tyrer-Vasell, who got victories for East Bridgewater in the high and low hurdles, triple jump and high jump. Tyrer-Vasell also added to school record in the 110-hurdles over the weekend at the elite Coaches Invitational at Durfee high School. Tyrer-Vasell won the event by over 10 yards and was the only runner to finish under the 15-second mark. His time of 14.68 seconds was a new school record in fully automated time. Tyrer-Vasell broke the school 100 hurdles record in time kept by stopwatch earlier in the season against Hanover with a time of 14.4 seconds.

Myles Tyrer-Vasell continued his strong spring season by following a win at the Coaches Invitational with four event victories, including the high jump, against the Green Wave.
“It is difficult to win this meet because athletes participate from all classes, levels and from all over Eastern and Central Massachusetts,” said head coach George McCabe. “That’s quite an accomplishment.”

Against Abington, Matt Begley continued to throw the javelin well for East Bridgewater, leading the Vikings to victory in that event and also winning the shot put. Brian Phillips and Kevin Costello finished off the sweep to take the top spots in the field events with first place in the long jump and discuss respectively.

On the track, Phillips also won the 100-meter dash and anchored the winning 4x100 relay team. Chris Harvey was also a double event winner for East Bridgewater with wins in both the mile and two-mile runs while Tim Hill and Matt Shea took home first place in the 200 and 800 meters respectively. The 4x400 team of Shea, James Adams, John Hachey and Kevin McLaughlin was also victorious.

In preparation for the Class D Relays on Saturday, the Vikings also ran a 4x110 team that finished in first place against the Green Wave. The Vikings won the Class D Championship last spring and McCabe said the performances by the 4x100 and 4x400 teams so far this season bode well for a repeat.

“Both our relay teams are undefeated this year,” he said. “That is a tremendous team effort.”
