Kylene Carey continued her strong season for East Bridgewater with wins in three events against Abington.
The Vikings girls track team remained undefeated Monday with a 120-16 win over the Abington Green Wave to improve their record to 7-0 with one dual meet left on the schedule.

Kylene Carey and Sarah McNeil were triple event winners for East Bridgewater in the meet with Carey taking the long jump, 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash while McNeil won high jump, shot put and 300-meet hurdles. Sarah Valant won two events for the Vikings with victories in the triple jump and 400-meters.

On a windy day with temperatures dipping into the 40s, head coach John Davison said he was happy with how his team performed in the elements.

“There were some pretty good times on a cold day,” he said. “I’m glad the girls didn’t have a let down after the Carver meet.”

The meet against Carver was the toughest of the year so far for East Bridgewater, their 70-66 win not only made them front runners for the South Shore League banner, but ended a winning streak by the Crusaders of 46 consecutive meets.

Going into the meet, Davison said he expected Carver be in front coming out of the field events and that the Vikings best chance for a victory would be on the track. However, Carey, McNeil and Valant were all able to get points in the field for East Bridgewater with Carey winning the long jump and placing second in the triple jump. Valant finished third in the triple jump and McNeill won the high jump and finished second in the shot put to give the Vikings 20 points heading into the track events.

“I told them they were going to be down after the field events,” Davison said. “We had more points than I actually expected to have [heading into the track events], that was good.”

On the track, Lauren Carey won the 400-meters for East Bridgewater while Valant won the 800 and Kylene Carey won the 100 and 300-meter hurdles with a personal best in the 100. Senior captain Stephanie Abiassaf also had a personal best in the hurdles, finishing in second place to pick up points for the Vikings.

With the outcome of the meet hinging on the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, the Vikings swept both events with victories by the team of Abiassaf, Lauren LeBlanc, Brianna Barry and Tori Benson in the 4x100 and Valant, Meaghan O’Brien, Danielle Carey and Olivia Harvey in the final race to seal the Viking win and end the Crusaders streak.

“They had a really good 4x100, but our team came up with a really good time and then our 4x400 team won it going away,” Davison said. “It was awesome.”

After their final dual meet of the season Wednesday against Mashpee, the Vikings get set for the state relays on Saturday in Abington before the all-league meet on Wednesday and the South Shore Principals next Saturday in Norwell.
