All articles at the East Bridgewater Town Meeting were taken care of in one night, which surprise me since it seemed like we were almost promised two. I’ll post more details tomorrow, but I wanted to get a few things in tonight for those who weren’t able to attend the meeting:
• Article 3 which was to put 30,000 in the stabilization acccount failed. However, the article to put 739,000 in the Capital Stabilization Fund passed. This allowed articles 9-15 to then pass.
• Article six which was $615,000 for the sole purpose of transportation for the East Bridgewater Public School students had a motion to amend. The amendment read: Move to raise and appropriate the sum of $615,000.00 for the purpose of providing regular transportation and educational services for the East Bridgewater Public school students for the August 2008 through June 2009 school year, and to meet this appropriation $465,000.00 be raised from the tax levy and applied to transportation and $150,000.00 be transferred from Free Cash and applied to maintaining teaching staff, and educational programs and positions. Because this amendment went outside the four corners of the original article it was thrown out after much debate. After voting the original article passed.
• The money that the Council On Aging asked for was another hot topic. The COA asked for $275,000.00 for the cost of architectural services and places and specification for the proposed Senior Center at Sachem Rock Farm, this was passed by a majority vote.
• Safety equipment that will enhance the safety of students at Central, Middle and High Schools as well as the Town Hall and the replacement of firearms for the police department were passed with a unanimous vote after a lengthy discussion.
