A Hanson teen involved in a rollover near the intersection of East and Mayflower streets early Sunday morning was seriously injured.
Kyle Sullivan, 18, of Milford Street in Hanson was taken by ambulance to South Shore Hospital, according to Deputy Fire Chief Christopher West. Sullivan was later taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition on Monday afternoon.
The driver of the car, 18-year-old Grant Newcomb of Summer Street in Duxbury. Was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol resulting in serious bodily injury. Newcomb was taken by ambulance to Jordan Hospital, according to West, where he was treated and released.
At least one of the three other teens who were in the black 2006 Landrover when it rolled over and hit a utility pole and a pine tree around 2 a.m. were also taken to area hospitals, according to Deputy Fire Chief Christopher West.
“The vehicle was traveling down East Street near the roundabout at the intersection with mayflower when it struck a utility pole,” said West.
After hitting the utility pole, the car rolled over several times before hitting a pine tree and landing about 25 feet into the woods.
When the emergency workers got to the scene, everyone was out of the vehicle. The most seriously injured teen was ejected from the vehicle and was found past the intersection with Mayflower Street, according to West. A medflight helicopter was requested for Sullivan, but could not land. Sullivan was then taken by ambulance to South Shore Hospital.
West said Newcomb was conscious and alert and was taken by ambulance to Jordan Hospital.
Upon further investigation, West said, it was discovered that there were three more passengers in the Landrover who had fled the scene. One of those passengers was located on Mallard Cove and he was taken to the hospital, West said.
The three teens who fled the scene were identified as being from Duxbury, according to police Lt. Lewis Chubb.
