George H. Tierney, 85, World War II veteran

George H. Tierney, 85, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Middleboro, Whitman and Florida, died Friday in the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Johnson) Tierney.
Born and raised in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Babb) Tierney.
Mr. Tierney served in the United States Navy in WWII. He saw naval action in the Pacific Theater of war aboard the carrier USS Hornet, was in on the first air raid over Tokyo in April 18, 1942. He was a lifetime member of the Whitman VFW, also the D. A. V.
He was a retired Weymouth police officer and also worked for the Bank of Boston in the security department.
He leaves his children Georgianna Dallessandro and her husband William and Michael Tierney all of Whitman, Carl Tierney and his wife Danielle of Florida; his grandchildren, Tracy Dallessandro, Holly Brown and her husband J.J., all of Whitman and Carl Vitagliano of Kingston and his great-granddaughter Yasmin Elizabeth Ali.
His services were held Wednesday, May 7 at 10 a.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Whitman. Burial followed in the Colebrook Cemetery Whitman.
