In 1945 a computer at Harvard malfunctioned and Grace Hopper, who was working on the computer, investigated, found a moth in one of the circuits and removed it. Ever since, when something goes wrong with a computer, it is said to have a bug in it.

Mary K. (Stratton) Doyle, 68, died unexpectedly at her home on April 16. She was the wife of William T. Doyle of Whitman.

Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine (Anderson) Stratton. Mary was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1957.

Mary was a resident of Whitman for 50 years, before moving to Halifax for six years and then recently moved back to Whitman.

She worked as a teacher’s aide at the Dyer School in Whitman and a cashier for Trucchi’s Supermarket for six years.

Mary was a lifelong member of the Whitman Mother’s Club, loved to go to yard sales, flea markets and enjoyed knitting and cooking.

In addition to her husband William, she leaves her children Deborah A. Doyle of Whitman and Jeffrey Doyle of Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 21 in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Whitman. Burial followed in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Donations can\ be made in Mary’s name to the American Diabetes Foundation, 330 Congress Street, Boston, MA. 02210.
